Eli and Dustin have cleared things up, as Scott and I are at the North American Network Operator’s Group meeting in SF. A pre-RAID backup plus new verbose logging combined to cause the trouble, and all’s well now. -Dane

Sat Feb 8 13:27:44 PST 1997 — We’ve backed out of the 2.0.29 upgrade, as it appears to have problems with ‘ptys’ (pseudo terminals, like those used in telnet and rlogin).

Fri Feb 7 16:37:25 PST 1997 — Bolt has been upgraded to Linux 2.0.29, plus we’ve eliminated a (failing) boot disk in favor of a nice new SCSI drive. This was a quick swap due to quite a bit of advanced planning.

Tue Feb 4 11:49:18 PST 1997 — Customers who connect via HP’s Palona gateway may have noticed very poor performance this morning. It seems that UUNet/Alternet was routing connections to HP via Singapore. We’ve shifted our path to MCI for this route, and all’s well. We expect that UUNet will fix their trouble at some point, and we’ll switch routing back then. -Dane

Tue Feb 4 18:34:06 PST 1997 — Hey folks, we’ve got USR X2 equipment here now. Unfortunately, USR hasn’t released the X2 firmware yet, so it’s not quite a reality. However, just as soon as it’s out, we’ll be supporting it! More info to follow. -Dane
