More mail maintenance.

Mon Aug 23 17:21:01 PDT 1999 — More mail maintenance. Our new mail server was configured for 50 local simultaneous deliveries, resulting in degraded performace. We’ve backed that down to a saner 7 simultaneous deliveries, which should improve performance immensely. If it doesn’t, we’ll be backing out of this change and transitioning to two servers. We apologize for the mail delays during the transition. -Scott and Eli

On Saturday the 21st we had a terminal server

Mon Aug 23 16:03:59 PDT 1999 — On Saturday the 21st we had a terminal server failure, this took down 25% of our dialup capacity and our multi-link PPP server. We were able to get it back online today and now we are working with PacBell to get the downed PRIs back online. This should be fixed by the end of the day. The multi-link PPP issues (multi-link across chassis) will be fixed after a 2:00 am reboot of the 1003 dialup pool. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused anyone. – Steve and DaveJ

Mail maintenance.

Fri Aug 20 12:50:10 PDT 1999 — Mail maintenance. We’ve migrated our primary mail server to the new system, Buzz.sonic.net. If you notice issues with email, please post to sonic.help, send an email (if possible), or contact support at 547-3400. Thanks. -Dane and Scott

Supernews/RemarQ had incorrect configuration…

Fri Aug 20 13:02:58 PDT 1999 — Supernews/RemarQ had incorrect configuration on our expanded network blocks, and this meant that some users were unable to read news using supernews.sonic.net. We’ve had them fix up the numbers, and all’s well. -Dane

News maintenance.

Thu Aug 19 11:42:01 PDT 1999 — News maintenance. Yesterday, we did some maintenance on Ultra’s active file, essentially syncronizing the news database’s article numbers with those actually found on the disk. Some newsreaders may respond to the change by showing a newsgroup with unread articles, and possibly no unread news when such a newsgroup is opened. We apologize for the inconvenience; we don’t anticipate doing that again for another year or two. -Scott

(DSL upgrade).

Tue Aug 17 23:07:07 PDT 1999 — (DSL upgrade). Well, the upgrade didn’t go as planned, and we were forced to go back to the T1 and await further testing of the T3 circuit tommorow. Grr. After we’ve got the issue isolated and resolved, we’ll reschedule the migration. Downtime while PacBell tried to transition was one hour. -Dane
