Sun Oct 29 08:36:12 PST 2000 — We’re currently having an outage affecting three out of our 24 older dialup terminal servers, and we are investigating now to find the cause. pm11, pm13 and pm20 are offline. Customers reaching these devices while calling our 1001 or 1002 dial groups may find that they cannot authenticate. Please re-try, or use the 1003 dial group (if it’s local for you). -Dane

Bolt.sonic.net, Sonic’s shell server…

Sun Oct 29 00:10:42 PDT 2000 — Bolt.sonic.net, Sonic’s shell server experienced a OS failure and required a reboot to restore services. Since all home directories were moved from bolt’s array onto freezer, the NetApp NFS server, this crash did not effect email delivery or any other services besides shell access. -Kelsey

That may not sound too impressive but we are only a leaf node and not a Usenet hub. New software we’ve written analyzes all user call terminations, and determines which users are having problems with their connections. Tue Oct 10 15:47:03 PDT 2000 — BroadLink is having ATM problems with 2% of their customers right now, and they’re migrating these folks to a non-ATM subnet temporarily. To resolve this problem, they’ll need to do a memory core dump of the ATM router tonight, a bit past midnight. All BroadLink WDSL customers will experience downtime of about fifteen minutes while this troubleshooting work is being done. -Dane and Shane
