Bay Area DSL outage.

Sat Jul 9 16:58:00 PDT 2005 — Bay Area DSL outage. ASI confirmed a widespread outage on their ATM network affecting DSL subscribers in the following area codes: 408, 415, 650, 707, and 925. They estimate approximately 10,000 customers, through various ISPs, are affected. Symptoms include a solid sync indication, but no ability to pass traffic. Not all Sonic.net customers in these areas are down, and no services other than DSL are affected. We have no ETR at this time. -Tony and John F.

Update: ASI reports that the problem was with an OC12, and traffic is currently being rerouted. There is a repair scheduled for 2:00 tomorrow morning, and we’ve been assured that service will not be interrupted during this time. All subscribers that were affected by this outage should now have their service restored. -Tony

Dial-up outage in Stockton area.

Fri Jul 8 12:39:57 PDT 2005 — Dial-up outage in Stockton area. This morning we experienced an outage in dial access from Stockton, CA, LATA 738. Customers in Stockton and surrounding areas may have experienced trouble connecting or browsing from approximately 11:00 AM until 12:00. The problem has been resolved. -Russ

Brief authentication failure this afternoon.

Wed Jul 6 17:09:17 PDT 2005 — Brief authentication failure this afternoon. A syntax error in our RADIUS configuration file caused all authentication requests to be failed for a period of 2-3 minutes at approximately 4:10 this afternoon. The error was quickly fixed, and we are taking steps to ensure that such errors do not cause authentication failures in the future. -Jared

Our Member Tools can be found linked on the left side of our home page at www.sonic.net/ under “Resources”. The Member Tools can be used to update, configure and upgrade your Sonic.net account. You can update your contact and payment info and add free services like personal web space or mailing lists.

The tools also offer access to quota information and web statistics, plus the ability to add mailboxes, add IPs for DSL users, register and host domain names, and more. -Dane
