Fusion/Flexlink Outage in the Santa Cruz Area

We are currently investigating an outage that is affecting Fusion and Flexlink customers in the Santa Cruz Area. This post will be updated as we investigate further.

Update: At&t has confirmed a major fiber cut in the area and have dispatched technicians out for repair. We will update further when we receive an ETR.

Update 2: At&t technicians continue to work on all the cut fiber but are unable to provide a ETR at this time.

Update 3 (11:15AM PST): At&t has determined that due to the extent of the damage, new cable will need to be brought in and installed to work around the affected area. The current rough ETR is 5 hours or around 4:00PM PST.

Update 4 (4:10PM PST): AT&T has pulled new cables and has begun splicing. Still no ETR.

Update 5 (7:00PM PST): At&t continues their construction to repair the damage. The latest estimate received from the splicing crew for restoral of service is 1AM to 2AM.

Update 6(3:10AM PST): At&t has completed splicing in the replacement cables and all affected areas are now back online.

Shell service outage.

We experienced a brief outage of our shell service starting at ~11:30 pm lasting until 12:10 am. Service is now completely restored.

System Operations.

Network Outage

Tonight, starting at 1:15am, equipment serving Sacramento telecom POPs, as well as Modesto/Sacramento ATM services went down. We are currently working to resolve the issue as fast as possible.

Update: Service restored at 1:50am. We are working with our transport provider to ensure this does not happen again.

Network Maintenance

Tonight, April 11th, starting at 11:59PM, we will be performing maintenance on some of our backbone infrastructure in the San Jose area. Customers may experience brief routing changes but we do not expect any lasting impact.

Server Maintenance

Update:

All work has been completed as of 1:22am, April 12th.

 

Tonight, April 11th, 2013, at 11:59pm, we will be performing maintenance and updates on several of our servers. All major work should be completed within an hour. Affected services include customer databases, websites, and mail. Customer impact should be minimal.

Sonic.net System Operations

Sonic Telecom Inbound Voice Issues

We are presently investigating widespread reports of static or bad voice connections on inbound calls to customers on our voice network.  An update will be provided shortly when we have further info.

Update: We have confirmed this issue was caused by an upstream provider. They have reported it is mostly fixed.  We await full confirmation of its resolution along with explanation of the cause.

ATM Maintenance

Tonight, Tuesday April 9th, starting at 11:59 PM, we will be performing maintenance on ATM equipment serving legacy DSL, FRATM, and Biz-T customers. We expect downtime to be less than 10 minutes.

New sonic.net webmail application

We are pleased to announce that we’re ready for users to test our new webmail application.  It features a modern interface that utilizes ajax and html5 and supports features like drag-and-drop and has a robust plugin system that allows us to extend its functionality.  All of our existing webmail applications will be replaced by the new one on April 22nd.  We encourage users to start using it now – it really is better in just about every way!

Emergency ATM Maintenance

We are performing an emergency reload on equipment serving a subset of legacy DSL, Business-T, and FRATM customers in the Bay Area and Modesto/Stockton area. We will send another update shortly once the maintenance has completed.

Sonic Telecom Call Completion Issues

As of around 11:20PM PST we began experiencing issues with an upstream voice provider for our telecom network. We have confirmed it is an identified issue that they are working to resolve, and have taken steps to reroute our own network to mitigate customer impact.  For the duration of this issue, customers may still experience intermittent inbound calling success.  Further update will be provided upon outage resolution.
