Our shell server, bolt.sonic.net ran short on

Mon May 8 12:17:38 PDT 2000 — Our shell server, bolt.sonic.net ran short on resources, and is currently returning some segmentation faults. We are currently working to kill off some old ‘stuck’ processes to clear resources. We will put together a watchdog that kills processes which are more than a day or two old, as they don’t need to clutter up the system for months. -Dane and Scott

Sun May 7 05:35:21 PDT 2000 — This morning at about 5:00am, our main web server, Thunder, detected a problem with its operating system and rebooted. Unfortunately, the web server program did not start after the reboot. Our paging system detected this, woke us up, and we fixed it. Downtime was approximately 15 minutes. We are investigating ways to assure that the web server program starts properly after a reboot. -Scott

We took marine off line and installed a new 100Mbit card. The mail queue is currently around 19,000 messages and falling. -Scott, Eli, and Kelsey
