Chico Area DSL Outage

An ATM port in San Francisco failed at approximately 8:30am.  This port serves all of our DSL customers hosted in Chico.  We’ve been working for the last 30 minutes to move all Chico customers to alternate hardware.  We expect this process to be complete in the next 10 to 15 minutes.

We apologize for the outage and are working to restore connectivity as soon as possible.  In the mean time, folks with immediate connectivity needs do have working dial-up services available.  -Dusty, Jared and Nathan

Chico DSL Maintenance.

Mon Aug 20 15:40:37 PDT 2007 — Chico DSL Maintenance. This Wednesday, August 22nd at 12:01 AM we will be performing backend maintenance on our Chico DSL backhaul circuit. The maintenance is a follow-up to the capacity upgrade to this circuit which was completed last week. Expected downtime is less than 10 minutes per customer. -Jared and Dusty

Chico DSL Aggregation Upgrade.

Wed Aug 15 16:29:15 PDT 2007 — Chico DSL Aggregation Upgrade. On Friday, August 17th at 12:01am, we will be upgrading our Chico DSL aggregation circuit. Expected downtime during this migration is approximately 20 minutes for all customers, though some may experience a significantly shorter outage. The new circuit rides an end-to-end redundant path from Chico to our aggregation hub in San Francisco, further increasing the reliability of our DSL offering. The increased capacity will also allow further growth in the area without the possibility of performance degradation due to overcrowding. -Dusty and Nathan

Update Fri Aug 17 00:29:25 PDT 2007 — This upgrade has been completed successfully. Downtime was under 4 minutes for all DSL customers in the Chico area. -Dusty and Nathan

Legacy DSL Outage

Update (11:20 PM): This circuit is now back online and fully functional.

Update: We are still working with our provider to resolve the issue. We have escalated to a very high level and continue to push for resolution as soon as possible.

Today, at 10:30AM, an aggregation circuit serving Legacy DSL for the Chico area went down. We are presently working with our upstream provider to isolate the cause and resolve the issue as quickly as possible. We will provide further updates shortly.

Legacy DSL Outage

Today, at 9:58AM, an aggregation circuit serving legacy DSL for the Chico area went down. We are working with AT&T to get this as soon as possible, and will post an update as soon as we have one available.

Update: This outage was caused by a partial fiber cut to a backhaul circuit from one of our transit carriers. Technicians have been dispatched for repairs, but we have not received an ETR as of yet.

Update: Service appears to be restored. We are working with our provider to determine the details of this outage, and how we can prevent re-occurrence in the future.

Legacy DSL Outage

We are currently investigating an outage affecting legacy DSL customers in the Chico area. We are working on locating the cause and resolving the issue as soon as possible.

Update: All affected customers should have stabilized, we are working with AT&T to determine the cause of the issue.

ATM Outage

This morning, February 27, at 12:11AM, an ATM aggregation circuit serving FRATM and legacy DSL in the Chico area went down. We are currently working with our vendor to bring this circuit back up as soon as possible. Update to follow.

Update: Circuit restored at 1:45am. We are working with our vendor to ensure this does not happen again.

Legacy DSL Outage

This morning, between 3:19AM and 3:26AM, backhaul circuit issues caused brief downtime for Legacy DSL customers in the Salinas and Chico areas. We are investigating the cause of these issues in order to prevent any future occurrences, if possible.

Emergency Legacy DSL Maintenance

Tonight, at 12:01AM, we will be performing invasive maintenance on an ATM switching device that serves a subset of legacy DSL customers in the Bay Area as well as Chico. Downtime for affected customers should be less than 10 minutes.

Update: The ATM switch in question suffered a redundancy fail-over before the maintenance work could be performed this evening. Affected customers should have experienced about 5 minutes of downtime while the fail-over occurred. We are currently investigating the cause of the issue in order to prevent further recurrences.

Legacy DSL Outage

This morning, Wednesday, April 25 at 7:00AM, equipment serving a subset of customers in (LATA2) Chico performed a soft reboot. We are investigating the cause of this reload with our vendors to ensure this does not happen again. All affected customers should be back online, estimated down time of less than 5 minutes.

Update: We have narrowed down the extended troubles to a failing card in one of our pieces of equipment. The problematic card has been replaced and all affected customer’s service has been restored.
